If your phone is a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) phone, you can use it with another mobile carrier. This means that you need to unlock it with a code. A free alternative to unlocking it through your carrier is to use unlocking software. You can download the software for free and obtain the code with your phone’s International Mobile Equipment Identification (IMEI) number.

This number helps the software identify your phone to find the proper code. Enter *#06# in your phone’s keypad. Press the “OK” button. Write down the 15- or 17-digit IMEI number as indicated on your phone’s screen. Use unlocking software found on the Internet. Examples include The Unlocker, Unlock to Talk and UnlockMe (see Resources). Download the software file and save it to your desktop.

Double-click the file and follow the installation wizard. Save the software to your computer’s hard drive.

Restart your computer for changes to take effect. Attach the USB cable to your cell phone. Connect the other end to your desktop computer or laptop’s USB port. Launch the unlocking software. Wait for it to detect your cell phone.

When prompted, enter the IMEI number and press the “Unlock” button. Choose “Net10” from the list of carriers to which your phone is locked. Also, select your country from the drop-down menu. Enter the unlock code in your phone. Follow any special instructions prompted by the software.
